Dentures (or better known as “plates”) are a type of removable prosthesis and can be used to replace an entire arch of missing teeth (complete/full denture), or a few missing teeth (partial denture). In most cases, dentures are the most economical and versatile option. We work closely with local dental laboratories to provide well-fitting and comfortable dentures.
Full dentures fit against the shape of the gums, whilst partial dentures have clips and metal frames or plastic resin which help support the replacement teeth. They can improve aesthetics by replacing missing teeth, thereby also improving speech and chewing.
Dentures are constructed over multiple appointments at Parade Dental Ocean Grove, during which time careful measurements are taken at every step of the process to ensure the best possible final fit. This involves moulds, bite measurements, colour matching, and trial fitting.
In some cases, dentures can be fitted immediately after the removal of teeth, so that you are not left with a gap in your smile.
It takes time and practice to adapt to wearing full or partial dentures, especially if you have not worn them before. We recommend eating soft foods cut into small pieces as you learn to chew with your dentures. Sometimes you may have areas of irritation from the denture, just like when you are breaking in a new pair of shoes. We can help you adjust and relieve these sore spots.
It is important that your teeth and your dentures are regularly checked for signs of wear and tear. Even if you have no natural teeth, it is still important to have your mouth checked for signs of oral cancer and fungal infections during your regular dental check-ups.
